What a job!

Working for a world class company cannot be beaten.

Five accomplishments that I enjoyed include:

·         I designed 2 work cells, including 12 CNC machine tools to fit in a very small area, taking in consideration coolant, swarf removal, overhead crane system & W.I.P areas for each machine tool. Organising the demolition of the old tool stores & designed the new M777 fitting area.

·         I designed the operations department, desks & work areas including 31 workstations & project managed the changeover.

·         Launching a TPM system on the shop floor for consumable tools.

·         Launching a Working Instruction system to accurately record build sequences for the fitting shop & setting sheets for the machine shop.

·         Ledgers, which we had to search & reference, thus I created excel programs (Public Folders in MS Outlook) & entered & organised the system, so it was easy to search & reference, thus ending a common problems of data being duplicated.

Five things that make me proud include:

  • Having vision for what needs to be done in different situations, even though the project may be new and succeeded to completion.

·         Being handed a new project & production engineering it from start to finish, planning all the route-cards, designing all the jigs & fixtures, CAD drawing all stage-drawings, CNC programming all the machine tools & finally creating all the working instructions for the CNC machine tools & fitting sequences.

·         Good machining back ground & the vision to see what the operator requires to carry out his tasks.

·         Able to work alone without being pushed to accomplish goals.

·         Being in shape.

Three times that I felt highly motivated to accomplish something include:

·         When I had tons of work to do to meet a product launch deadline, I also had to jump from different projects during the day and had to stay extremely organized and focused in order to complete the work.

·         When the Fitting production Engineer left the company, I had to carry out his tasks, which I was just starting to learn fitting techniques & continue with my own tasks as well, this was completed by splitting up the day, which worked very well, in my appraisal I was complimented in my handling of tasks in hand.

·         Being asked by the Works Manager to design a test fixture from hand drawn sketches, overcoming requirements for ‘o’ rings & lee valves, as his department did not have a design draftsman available for it to be CAD drawn.

Three scenarios in which I lacked motivation to accomplish something include:

·         When I had to change drawing packs which was clerical work and other rote tasks that only challenged my patience but did not engage my mind.

·         When I felt like my employer was making decisions that sacrificed his employee’s self-motivation.

·         When I leave mundane tasks until last & complete fulfilling tasks immediately.

I felt appreciated by people when:

·         One reason why I enjoyed designing jigs & fixtures was because it made operators tasks easier & more pleasurable & I was appreciated by all the operators on the shop floor because of  this.

·         My supervisor and colleagues verbally praise my efforts and thank me for my way of working.

Think of three scenarios in which you felt appreciated by other people, how did they communicate that appreciation for you.

·         I got a significant bonus after designing the operations department after having my value to the company reconsidered.

·         I volunteered to become the I.T assistant, solving people’s printer & software problems, which they verbally thanked me.

·         I volunteered to become the Health & safety committee member, to ensure persons health and working environment was looked after.

Make a list of how your colleagues, staff, and supervisors describe you, Include the positive and negative feedback.

·         Dependable, Focused, Flexible, Professional, Fast leaner, Creative, Initiative.

·         Confident, Creative, team member, works under pressure.

·         However can be seen as quiet.

Make a list of how friends and family describe you

·         Happy,

Make a list of ten of your best personal qualities.

10.  Works under pressure.

Think of two small and large decisions that you have made.

Describe how you went about making those decisions.

·         The largest decision I made was the position of the clean-room, which had been decided to be placed in a horizontal position, thus cutting the company in two, I believed that it should be in a vertical position to allow access from the shop-floor to the offices.

·         The other largest decision I had made was re-designing the shop-floor including: Cylindrical Products cell, Structures cell, Prototype cell, Strangers Cell, M777 Fitting Cell.  These were designed with a brief from the Operations Director, with a view of flow requirements of M777 & patria projects.

·         The smallest decision I had made was organising the departments computer files which started with PED01_CAD Drawings etc, thus all colleagues could access their files quickly.

·         The other smallest decision I had made was to volunteer to become the assistant I.T manager which helped the Financial Director, as he was spending a large amount of time with non-respective tasks of re-setting passwords & setting printers which I was happy to do.

Describe two situations that seemed risky to you. What did you do?

·         If my superiors decide a course of action even if it is commercially risky, then I believe that they have a fuller picture and it is of no consequence to me.

·         If my colleges decide a course of action even if it is commercially risky, then I believe that I have a duty to explain why I believe it to be risky & will discuss the reasons for it in a professional manner.

Describe a conflict situation between you and someone else that was resolved to your satisfaction. How was it resolved?

·         99.9% of the time, colleagues want to succeed in their tasks during the day & do have a personal standard they like to achieve, if some one has a grievance, it is usually warranted & a conflict could arise.

·         I commissioned a new fixture, this was despatched to the Cylindrical Products Cell, the operator believed that it would not function correctly. When this was used for the first time, it worked better than he believed.

·         I usually thank them for their help, or point out their good actions to their superiors.
